I had the pleasure of contributing to this VFX-heavy spot for City Index while working at Wicked Pixels, in collaboration with Man vs. Machine. Who knew creating CG dumplings could be this satisfying? One of the unexpected challenges was removing the original in-shot dumplings and replacing them entirely in comp… something the client had strong (and pretty funny) feelings about. I’ll save that story for a coffee chat.

Here are the shots I worked on comparing the original footage vs the comped footage.

Added in CG dumplings, table and bar stool in the background on frame left.
Increased the saturation of the colour glow on her too.
Replaced Hero dumpling with CG dumpling, added in additional dumplings
and pastries in the background on frame right. Increased the saturation of the colour glow on her too.
Removed the parking lot and street by adding in more trees.
Unfortunately all the clean up work gets hidden by the colour gradient.
